World Junior Hockey Winnipeg Legacy Fund Grant Application

The World Junior Hockey Winnipeg Legacy Fund was created as of 1999 from funds generated by the World Junior Hockey Championship for the purpose of promoting amateur hockey in the City of Winnipeg and, in particular, providing:

  • development of athletes, coaches and officials
  • educational seminars i.e. Fair Play, Harassment, Abuse, etc.
  • targeted programs for special interest groups to introduce the game of hockey
  • volunteer, parent developmental programs/seminars

Who Can Apply

All organizations that are recognized as members in good standing of either Hockey Manitoba or the Winnipeg Minor Hockey Association. Projects must be designed to benefit the youth of Winnipeg.

A maximum of one application may be submitted in any one year by an eligible organization.

What Type of Projects are Eligible

The World Junior Hockey Winnipeg Legacy Fund will support projects that are consistent with the purpose for which the Fund was established (see above) and that DO NOT DUPLICATE OR REPLACE existing applicant programs.

Projects will normally be considered in the range of $1,000 - $10,000.

Project Evaluation

Projects will be screened to ensure applicants and projects meet the criteria as set out above. Factors will be considered to judge which projects to fund and to what extent.

Optimal use of internal and/or other available resources

  • evidence of potential benefits
  • projected impact on the participants or participation rates

Applicant Responsibilities

  • prepare and submit a completed application form
  • provide copies of any required written approvals
  • maintain records on project revenues and expenditures
  • provide a final report with substantiated documentation not later than 8 weeks after the event

Application Process

Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis. All applications for assistance will be reviewed by the Trustees. Approved funding may be advanced at a rate of 70% upon receipt of written acceptance of the offer, with the remaining 30% upon receipt of the final report.

Final reports are to be provided by the recipients within six (6) months following the approval of the application.  Final payments will be made within thirty (30) days upon acceptance of the Trustees.
